Present Ministry
Our present Minister, Rev. Stephen Biddall, settled with us in September 2006. We have an active ministry amongst young people (with a variety of activities for all ages); and a heart for outreach through various community projects, including a luncheon club and coffee mornings.
We are active in local ecumenical partnership, and are seeking to develop closer links with our neighbours – both Baptist and non-Baptist. Our worship is inclusive of traditional and contemporary styles, and we are passionate about world mission.
Above all, we seek to be a welcoming, worshipping and witnessing fellowship, built on the Lordship and love of Jesus Christ.
A short history of Margate Baptist Church (Cecil Square)
A Baptist church was started at the Shallows, between Margate and St. Peters, in 1762. Later an outreach was made to the town of Margate, meeting in the High Street then Love Lane.
In 1800 the Shallows divided into two separate churches. The Margate Church grew rapidly and, in 1815, moved into a new building in New Street, called Ebenezer Chapel. This is the sanctuary which we use today.
In 1899 the building was extended into Cecil Square, and the Church became known as Cecil Square Baptist Church.
